- What is the OnePrint SE ?
- The OnePrint SE is a software product installed on a dedicated personal computer attached to the network. The OnePrint SE identifies itself to the HOSTS as an IBM printer and accepts IPDS /SCS/DSC data stream, converts the data in real time, to variety of LAN printer format, communicate with the network printer operation system in order to print the data on a network attached printer. The HOST dialog, the language conversion and network dialog done for each HOST printer to LAN printer session. The OnePrint SE can support one to 128 sessions simultaneously ( the number and type of supported printers is determined by an Identity plug).
- What Hosts can be served by the OnePrint SE ?
- The OnePrint SE can accepts several types of input protocols, PPD/PPR (TCP/IP Encapsulate IPDS) , SNA IPDS, SNA SCS and DSC. The first type is made by PSF installed on HOST with TCP/IP stack (AS400 ,M/F ,OS/2 ,RS6000 ) (See: release note 11 for more information ). SNA IPDS is made by PSF installed on SNA HOST, SNA SCS and DSC are the SNA HOST standard printing output, The SNA HOST identify the OnePrint SE as a PU 2.0 (same as 3174 cluster controller ) with printers LU ( Type 1 - SCS/IPDS or Type 3 - DSC ).
- The OnePrint SE can send the converted data to printers connected by ...
- The OnePrint SE can direct its output to the following operation system:
- NCP/IPX - NOVELL - The OnePrint SE attached as a regular bindery user to the NOVELL server and sends it's printout to the NOVELL printing system the same as any Novell user.
- SMB/IP - LAN SERVER, LAN MANAGER, WINDOWS 95, WINDOWS NT, Windows for Workgroups - The OnePrint SE attached as a windows user to the WINDOWS server and sends it's printout to the WINDOWS PRINT MANAGER system the same as any remote user.
- LPD/IP - OS/2 WARP, UNIX , SAP R3 - The OnePrint SE send jobs in the LPD format to LPD server with queue .
- LPD peer to peer - HP jetdirect, AXIS, MARKVISION, etc. - The OnePrint SE sends print jobs in the LPD protocol to the LPD server without the need to use queue.
- How can the OnePrint SE be configured ?
- The OnePrint SE can be configure via the following methods:
- OPC (OnePrint SE Configuration) OFF LINE - A configuration file can be prepared on any personal computer using the OPC program. The configuration is then loaded to the OnePrint SE server using the floppy drive.
- HOST SET UP - The OnePrint SE can be configured using a list of command sent from the M/F via a regular text file., all it is needed is to write a special header and trailer (configure by the OPC program), and between them the command to control the OnePrint SE.
- OPC ON LINE - The OnePrint SE can be configured using the OPC program Which communicate to the OnePrint SE server via SNMP/IP or SNMP/IPX. All the OnePrint SE's parameters can be changed on-line. OPC also provides immediate feedback from the OnePrint SE unit regarding it's current status.
- How can I monitor the OnePrint SE ?
- The OnePrint SE's operation can be monitored in the following ways:
- OnePrint SE Console:
- HISTORY log file - The OnePrint SE continuously generates a history log file, all the events that occurs in the OnePrint SE are written to this history log file. The detail level of the information written to this file is set by the OPC parameters in the logging sub menu. The file can be downloaded to diskette, remotely viewed by the OPC on-line or viewed locally in the server itself.
- MONITOR - In the monitor sub menu on the OnePrint SE server all the system parameters such as :HARDWARE, NETWARE, INET, SNA, SNMP AGENT STATUS can be viewed on-line. For detailed summary an administration sub menu is provided.
- OPC ON LINE program:
- HISTORY log file - Using the OPC program, the history log file can be remotely viewed.
- PORT status - The current status of each printer "port" can be viewed via the PORT sub menu.
- PU status - The current PU status can be viewed via the HOST sub menu.
- What do I need in order to install the OnePrint SE ?
- The OnePrint SE software is designed without any requirement for special HOST or LAN or HARDWARE definitions. All you need is:
- HARDWARE REQUIRMENTS (Minimum):
- ASI Gates approved PC mother board.
- Minimum 32 Mbytes RAM.
- Serial mouse.
- Minimum 1.0 Gbytes HDD.
- ASI Gates approved NICs (Network Interface Card).
- CD ROM ( for the UnixWare installation, only for the installation ).
- SNA HOST REQUIRMENTS ( SNA/LLC Input ):
- VTAM /NCP P.U 2.0 definition including printers LU type 1 or 3 (OnePrint SE emulate a 3174 IBM controller attach to the LAN as a Down Stream P.U (DSPU) with up to 128 IPDS printers attached).
- LAN Gateway to provide the OnePrint SE Up Stream P.U. connectivity (FEP, 3174, 3172, OS/2 communication manager or compatible).
- Printer definitions in PSF (for IPDS models only).
- TCP/IP HOST REQUIRMENTS ( IPDS/TCP/IP Input ):
- IBM operating system with TCP/IP stack installed.
- Latest PSF version (PSF 2.2 (M/F) or PSF400 (AS 400) or PSF6000 (IBM AIX) or PSF2 (OS/2)).
- Latest patches that enable the PSF to print to a TCP/IP attached printer.
- IP address for the OnePrint SE server.
- Definitions for the OnePrint SE IP and PORT (starting from 5001) on the HOST as a TCP/IP attached pri.
- NETWORK REQUIRMENTS:
- USER name and PASSWORD (for NOS system: LAN SERVER/MANAGER, WINDOWS, NOVELL) .
- Name of the printer queue (for spooled system only - all but LPD Peer to Peer) and the printer language.
- Gateway IP address (for TCP/IP sites only).
- IP address for the OnePrint SE server (for TCP/IP only).
- Unique IPX address for the OnePrint SE server (for IPX only).
